This week starts with the onset of my first cold of the year. The bloke is truly suffering - he has all the aches, pains and exhaustion, whereas mine is simply a rather yucky irritation. Nevertheless, I have two high-points to lift my spirits.
I've just signed up as a participant in 2016's A-Z Challenge. Shortly after I started this blog last year, I signed up on a whim to last year's challenge, where I found a world-wide collection of individuals who joined together to blog throughout the month of April.
The challenge has been running annually since 2010 and there is no limitation to the subject matter for bloggers. By having a rest day on Sundays, April accommodates the alphabet very nicely. You are encouraged to read five other blogs every day, so this isn't just about the writing. It's also not only about increased traffic, it's about joining the community of bloggers and building new relationships. Last year, I had no theme, having signed up the day before it started. I did no advance preparation, so it was all a touch franatic. This year, I intend to be a touch more organised which I hope will enable me to visit a wider range of websites and to maximise the interaction.
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and visited some fabulous blogs. This year, I look forward to visiting those same blogs, plus a whole host of news ones. I cannot recommend the experience highly enough - do consider joining in, this year or at some time in the future.
My other high-point was receiving a request to be a writing partner. We are yet to sit down and agree the parameters, but have exchanged our writing goals for the year - in brief. I imagine the intention will be to provide support and encouragement, to review each other's writing and - most important of all - accountability! We are already friends who share a love of reading and literature. My new writing partner is also kind, but I have confidence that I will receive criticism and that it will be constructive. I hope the same can be said of me. I'm looking forward to the experience hugely, especially as I have set writing goals this year. Here's to a great 2016!
How's the start of your year looking? Is there something you are looking forward to, or that is providing you with a boost?
